Windows 10 Update (1903) will Support AVIF Format

In the next major windows Windows 10 update (version 1903). Microsoft will add AVIF file format support.

AVIF format itself is a format based on the AV1 format which already supports several software such as VLC or the Firefox Browser

So since Windows 10 version 1903, the AV1 format will support at least MS Paint and File Explorer, as stated by the AVIF developer via GitHub.

• Windows File Explorer can show AVIF thumbnails, display Exif metadata and preview AVIF images. Requires the Windows 10 "19h1" preview release, which can be obtained from the Windows Insider program, and the AV1 Video Extension.
• MSPaint.exe The "Paint" app in Windows 10 can display AVIF images. Requires Windows 10 "19h1" preview release build 18305 or later, which can be obtained from the Windows Insider program, and the AV1 Video Extension.

So if the user has not installed this codec, the file with AVIF format cannot be opened in an image editor application such as MS Paint and the picture file is not displayed in File Explorer.
